Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
