Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
