Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
