Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
