Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
