Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
