Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
