Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
