Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
