Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
