Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
