Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
