Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
