Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
