Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
