Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
