Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
