Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
