Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
