Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
