Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
