Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
