Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
