Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
