Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
