Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
