Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
