Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
