In holdem, the first step is to get the card game started, and for this the competitors put out a particular total of cash. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used phrase for this play. In the following step, the dealer shuffles the deck of cards and gives out two cards face down to every player. A regular deck of 52 cards is used in the deal. Then there is the first sequence of betting. This sequence is typically known as a "pre-flop".

Following the 1st wagering sequence, the first card of the deck is thrown away. This thrown away card is the "burn card", and this is done to ensure there is no corruption. The following 3 cards are then flipped face up on the table. These cards are known as ‘the flop’. Now comes a second sequence of betting, after that the dealer tosses out a further card and deals one more card onto the table. After this, competitors can use the 6th card to create a 5card poker hand.

Another sequence of betting follows, and in a number of types of poker, here is where the wager size doubles. There is an additional round of burning a card, and a last placing of a card face-up on the table. This is called the "river". Gamblers can now employ any of the five cards on the board, and/or the 2 cards in their pocket, to create a five-card poker hand.

To wrap it up there’s a last round of betting. Then, all the players left start to reveal their hands. This is known as the "showdown". Obviously, the competitor who shows the best hand is the winner. When players have even hands a sharing of the winnings is used.

Texas hold’em is a very easy game to pick up, but to achieve prowess one needs a large amount of studying.
