Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
